natural trigger · 58 in 10,000 spinsThree Emblems open ten free spins at a EUR 1.00 stake with EUR 26.00 paid on the triggering spin; every spin places an Emblem, expanded symbols pay on top of the lines and the round closes at EUR 69.50. Recorded in a separate browser session, outside the statistical samples.
Across the whole run the 58 natural bonuses split into 8 under 20x, 30 between 20x and 50x, 13 between 50x and 100x and 7 at 100x or more, and together they made up 34% of everything the game returned. The wait between two triggers ran from 3 to 1,058 spins. Payout figures here are FS-only, in ordinary stakes; the trigger payout is excluded.
A retrigger here means three or more Kraken Emblems landing during the feature, which adds ten spins to the counter; the opening award of ten spins is not part of the count. Seven of the 58 natural features received at least one such award, and round 9510 collected four of them.

How it plays
13 rules screens from the gameBeat the Beast: Kraken's Lair runs on a five-reel, three-row grid crossed by nine fixed paylines, and a line pays when the same symbol runs from the first reel to the right, longest win per line. The Kraken is the top symbol at 1.5x the bet for a pair, 10x for three, 50x for four and 500x for five. The Golden Squid pays 0.5x, 3x, 17.5x and 50x, the Treasure Chest 0.5x, 3x, 15x and 40x, the Amulet 0.5x, 2.5x, 12.5x and 30x, the Trident 0.5x, 2.5x, 10x and 25x. The Ace returns 0.5x, 3x and 15x for three to five, the King and Queen 0.5x, 2.5x and 12.5x, the Jack and Ten 0.5x, 2x and 10x.
The Kraken Emblem doubles as Wild and Scatter: it stands in for every other symbol, and three or more Emblems anywhere pay 2x, 20x or 200x the bet while opening ten free spins; three more during the feature add ten spins. Five Emblems along one payline also pay 500x as a line win, the same as five Krakens. When a winning payline contains an Emblem, every other symbol of that win expands over its reel, each symbol once, and the Emblem itself never expands. The screen is then paid again: in the log the expanded lines come on top of the lines that already paid, not instead of them.
Each free spin places one Kraken Emblem on the reels before the spin, so every feature spin carries at least one expansion trigger. There is no feature purchase in this build. Thunderkick lists 96.12% as the return to player, the intro screen advertises 7,777x the bet as the maximum, and stakes in the demo go from EUR 0.10 up to EUR 100.00; the studio's own game card rates the volatility as very high.

Verdict
Expanded lines pay on topTwo Golden Squid lines in round 1315 paid EUR 18.00, and then a single Kraken Emblem on the same screen expanded the squid over three positions and all nine paylines paid again for EUR 171.50 on top. The three Emblems that caused it also paid EUR 2.00 as Scatters and opened ten free spins worth EUR 105.00, so the round closed at 296.5x the EUR 1.00 stake, the best of the test.
Expansions did most of the paying everywhere else too. Across the 10,000 ordinary rounds 451 expansions added EUR 2,936.50, 33.0% of every payout in the series, and inside the 58 natural features 411 expansions added EUR 2,218.50, 73.9% of the EUR 3,001.50 those features returned. Queens expanded most often, 47 times for EUR 397.50, while the Kraken itself expanded 31 times for EUR 396.00; the largest feature expansion was a Queen over four positions in round 1988, EUR 82.50 on nine lines.
The features themselves were short. Fifty-one of the 58 stopped at their ten spins, six took one retrigger to twenty, and only round 9510 strung four retriggers into fifty spins, returning EUR 256.00 from its free spins alone. The free-spins money averaged 51.75x the stake per feature with a median of 36.25x, and one free spin, the sixth of round 7591, paid EUR 125.00 by itself.
The price of those swings was a long stretch of nothing. Payouts of zero filled 7,631 of the 10,000 rounds, an Emblem sat on 2,118 opening screens and on 1,417 of them completed no line and expanded nothing, and the demo balance ended at EUR 3,889.50 from EUR 5,000.00. The approximate 95% CI for the series mean runs from 74.07% to 103.72%, which is how much room a 10,000-round sample of a game this swingy leaves open.
- One Emblem in round 1315 turned EUR 18.00 of Golden Squid lines into EUR 189.50, and the same screen opened ten free spins for EUR 105.00 more.
- Expansions added EUR 2,218.50 inside the 58 natural features, 73.9% of their money, on 306 of the 680 free spins.
- Round 9510 chained four retriggers into fifty free spins and returned EUR 256.00 from them on a EUR 1.00 stake.
- Ordinary spins reached 10x or better 164 times, and the best of them, round 9481, paid EUR 110.50 without a feature.
- An Emblem showed on 2,118 opening screens, and on 1,417 of them it completed no line and expanded nothing.
- Fifty-one of the 58 features ended after their first ten spins, and the weakest two, rounds 5902 and 7179, returned EUR 3.00 each.
- Three Emblems paid only EUR 2.00 on 65 of the 68 Scatter awards; four Emblems, worth EUR 20.00, landed three times and five never did.
- Five Krakens on a line, the 500x combination, never appeared on an ordinary spin, where the top round stopped at 110.5x.

FAQ
4 questions · answered from the logKraken Emblem: Scatter pay, Wild, or both?
Both. As a Scatter, three Emblems anywhere paid EUR 2.00 on 65 of the 68 Scatter awards in the test and four Emblems paid EUR 20.00 three times. As a Wild the Emblem completes lines, and whenever it sits inside a winning line the other symbols of that line expand over their reels, which happened on 348 ordinary rounds and on 306 of the 680 free spins.
In 10,000 demo rounds of Kraken's Lair, what was the free spins rate, and how long did a feature run?
Fifty-eight features at EUR 1.00, which is 5.8 per thousand rounds, 5.8 bHz in lab units, about one every 172 rounds. Fifty-one of them stopped at ten spins, six took a single retrigger to twenty, and round 9510 strung four retriggers together for fifty spins and EUR 256.00.
What put the demo at 88.9% when the rules list 96.12%?
Because one series of 10,000 rounds is a sample, not the model. Round 1315 alone returned EUR 296.50, and without it the other 9,999 rounds paid back 85.94% of their stakes; 7,631 rounds paid nothing. The listed 96.12% describes the game over the long run, the 88.9% describes where this particular EUR 10,000 of play landed.
Which rule sets the 7,777x maximum, and did any round come near it?
The intro screen advertises 7,777x the bet as the maximum and the game configuration enforces it as the round's maximum exposure. The test came nowhere near it: the best round, 1315, reached 296.5x, and the best single free spin, the sixth of round 7591, paid 125x.
